Another hot day, but we started early (about 08:00) and took on plenty of liquids.

Stopped for morning tea in Tongeren – the oldest town in Belgium. Vey pretty.

Stopped for lunch in Maastricht. Just grabbed a few things from the supermarket.

Maastricht is one of Gareth’s favourite places as the Treaty of Maastricht, signed in 1992, integrated the newly integrated Germany into the European Union (EU) formerly known as the European Community (EC).

Crossed border today – from Belgium into Germany - country #4.

Got to Aachen about 15:00. Our hotel - Ristorante Salvatore - did not look very promising. Looked like an italian restaurant in a busy square opposite the railway station.. Russian lady on the desk. Showed us up to a first floor room with just a double bed – The Cat slept on the floor! Not so bad because it was stinking hot. No storage for bikes, but luckily there was a balcony we could put them on. We showered and went for a wander into town. A few beers at the Aachener Brauhaus, then dinner at Postwagen.

Watched a cycle race around the cobbled streets. Finished the evening with a sausage at Hauswurst and Beers.
